An Acorn A3010 comes equiped with only 1MB RAM.
Some Games and Demos require more...
It is very easy to add another 1MB of RAM and i show you how to upgrade you A3010.
When you open the Acorn A3010 you will find two empty sockets at the lower-right on the mainboard. |
Under this sockets there are a few jumpers.
(LK20, LK21, LK22 ...)
The only jumper you will need to move is jumper LK22.
So change the position of the jumper LK22 to match this picture (move jumper to its upper position). |
Now you will need 2 RAMs of the following type:
HM514260AZ8
You can search for them in google, try Ebay or simply contact me ;-) (currently I have 2 sets of RAMs left).
Insert the two RAMs into the sockets Pin 1 facing to the front (Pin 1 is where the little cut corner is on the chip)
And you are ready to go!
Now your Acorn A3010 has 2MB RAM and is ready to play all this great games and demos... |
While my Acorn A3010 was open, i decided to remove the onboard CMOS battery.
I had to press "R" every time at bootup... So the battery was empty...
... and started to corrode the A3010 motherboard! |
I cut of the 3 legs of the battery with a wirecutter. |
And i cleaned the corroded parts with vinegar and then with clear water.
Now i have to press "R" ever time at bootup, but my Acorn A3010 won´t got eaten by batteryacid.
Maybe i will replace the battery with a new one in the future.
Greetings TOM:-)
